Week 10 Congratulations

November 16, 2009

It’s week 10 and you’ve made it, we think it’s fair to say you are no longer Absolute Beginners, you can think of yourselves as Line Dance Beginners from now on and deservedly so.

The last nine weeks seem to have gone really quickly and it is true to say we have been really impressed by both your commitment and achievements during that time.

Where do you go from here?

The 10 weeks you have spent with us is really just the beginning, during that time we have endeavoured to cover all the major step sequences and put them together in an easy to understand way to a variety of music styles. Now that you have covered the basics it is not the time to stop but to move on and to build on your dance repertoire and skills. There are 3 classes left this year, the last being on December 7th 2009, with the first class of the new year commencing Monday January 11th 2010, 7 – 8 pm as usual.

It is only when you regularly line Dance that you’ll improve and be able to learn the harder dances, practice makes perfect as they say but if you want proof just watch some the more experienced dancers trying to do a dance they haven’t danced for a few weeks…

That is one of the reasons we have run throughs on most dances, little point putting the music on if only a handful can remember it. That leads me on to the class that follows yours, you are more than welcome to stay on, either to watch or join in when you feel ready, and whilst we can’t slow the class down we can add an extra wall in the run through just for you. If you do stay please don’t put yourself on the end or at the back, jump right into the middle because that way you will have someone to watch on all walls, follow as best you can and eventually you’ll find yourself just doing it.

Last week we started to learn Peaches and Cream danced to You’re Sixteen by Ringo Starr, we’ll master it this week and we may introduce a dance next week from the second class so that eventually you’ll have a number of dances in common, this will help make the transition from one class to another that much easier.

That just about sums it up for this week, which incidentally is the last edition of the weekly newsletter, from previous experience we know that many people gave up pretty quickly when starting a new class. This was primarily because they felt it was all too much to take in so quickly and that they thought they were putting others off and would never get it. The idea behind the weekly newsletter was to let you know you weren’t the only one who had or was feeling like that and also to provide genuine praise and encouragement along the way, we think that judging by the number of you who have regularly come along every week that it has done it’s job.

We use the website for updates and also provide newsletters on a quarterly basis or whenever there is something important to let you know about.

It only leaves us both to say a big THANK YOU for your support and time, we both hope you have enjoyed the classes so far and that we’ll continue to see you on the dance floor in the weeks and years to come.
